We teleport to Vulcan

We are not hardcore Star Trek fans. Really.

No fake ears and elongated eyebrows for us.

But when we saw that our trip into Canada would take us near Vulcan, Alberta, home to the city’s touristy Trek Station? How could we resist?

Resistance is, indeed, futile, at least for someone wearing *this* red shirt!

It’s a fun stop, complete with props and displays from the original series and the ones that followed. Several of the actors, including Leonard Nimoy, have visited, and others have sent signed photos.

“I have been a Vulcan for 44 years; and it was about time I came home.” — Leonard Nimoy

I’m pretty sure that’s William Shatner’s signature on the model of the USS Enterprise. It’s more of a scrawl than mine.

Dang it, Bones, I’m a paper cutout, not a starship captain!

And Vicki’s favorite episode is “The Man Trap” from the original series. She loves salt, you see, and the monster of the week for that episode was the Salt Vampire.

Plus there was pretty good pizza next door at Mama’s Pizza.

Next year, if we pass through Iowa, we need to stop at Riverside, Iowa, which bills itself as the “future birthplace” of Capt. James T. Kirk on March 22, 2228.

It’s all in fun, you know. Right?

“Dead man walking” may be the best translation. If you hold your eyes just right.

Live long and prosper!
