Quick post: Train like it’s the real thing

Not-so-high-in-the-sky on Wednesday, the crew of a what looks like an Army UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter practiced using the cable hoist not far from the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds in Goshen, Indiana, where we are attending the Forest River Owners Group rally.

No unit markings, but I assume this is a National Guard UH-60 helicopter crew doing training in cable pickups of people when in a low hover. Pretty cool. Just outside the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds in Goshen, Indiana.

It was definitely noisy, but not as loud as the dining hall with a thousand-ish hungry RV owners gather for meals.

We first noticed the helicopter circling the general area. I thought it might land on the horse arena just behind our trailer, but it ended up winching down cargo and then picking up personnel, two at a time, from a field beyond the railroad tracks.

Two people are winched up to a military heliocopter just outside the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds in Goshen, Indiana.

I would have volunteered to be picked up, just for the experience of it, but they never asked.
